Not every job we love is a giant backdrop wall. Some of the ones that stick with us the longest fit on a kitchen island. This is one of those.
A Coppell mom reached out a couple of weeks before her son’s seventh birthday with a very specific request, and it came straight from the birthday boy. He wanted Stitch. Not a generic blue-and-pink party, not a theme we picked for him. Stitch, the little blue alien with the big ears and the even bigger personality, because at seven he is a true Lilo and Stitch fan, and this was going to be his day.
So that is what we made.
What he had in mind
This was not an elaborate install. There was no wall, no sequins, no neon. It was a fun balloon setup for a kid who loves one specific character, and honestly that is one of our favorite kinds of orders. The brief was simple and the best kind: take a seven-year-old’s favorite character and turn it into balloons he would lose his mind over.
We talked it through with his mom and landed on a tabletop centerpiece she could pick up in Coppell and set out at the party. Big enough to be the star of the table, sturdy enough to ride home in the car and stand on its own.
How we built it
The Stitch himself was the piece we had to plan around. He is a licensed character foil balloon, not something we keep on the shelf, so we custom-ordered him in special for this build. Worth it. That grinning blue face is the whole point.
Around him we built an organic cluster in the Lilo and Stitch palette: royal blue, light pink, hot pink, aqua, and soft lavender, mixing balloon sizes so the cluster read as one full, rounded shape instead of a few balloons stuck together. A light-blue foil number 7 stood tall at the back with a little hot-pink balloon cluster topping it off, and Stitch perched at the front like he had climbed up to see what was going on.
Because this was a Coppell pickup, we built it to travel and to stand on its own. No base, no frame, just balloons balanced to sit on any flat surface, whether that turned out to be a kitchen island or a party table. We had the finest time putting this one together. Some builds are just pure fun, and a Stitch centerpiece for a seven-year-old is one of them.
The hug
When they came to pick it up in Coppell, the birthday boy came along. The second he spotted Stitch, his whole face lit up, and we got a hug.
That hug was worth its weight in gold.
He was happy. His mom was happy. And that, more than any backdrop wall we have ever built, is the thing we love about this business.
A small note on why we do this
We get asked for big, dramatic setups all the time, and we love building them. But if you want to know what actually keeps us doing this work, it is not the size of the install. It is a seven-year-old hugging you because you turned his favorite character into balloons.
A happy kid and a happy parent is the whole job. We will build a giant wedding backdrop or a single Stitch centerpiece with exactly the same care, because the payoff is the same either way. Sometimes the smallest order gives you the biggest hug.
